“Poet of shapes and colors, Sam renounces stardom…facing gallery owners, artist collectives and institutions.
He lives almost like a hermit, for his own sake, for not letting himself be contaminated by what today’s art is and the values it represents. He always paints to give colors and wonders to an audience that adores him, to an audience that appreciates the smell of oil and linseed paint (in his studio), the imaginary world of what it is to be an artist or what great artists were like in other times.
Sam Abercromby, the most Portuguese Australian I know, celebrates Portugal’s birthday and even that should be written somewhere in the stars. Because that’s where Sam paints…“
